For the science and technology geek in everyone, TheProdigious.com is a Science and Technology blog aimed to answer those random questions you find asking yourself and discuss some of those fascinating topics relating to science, space, the human body, and technology.
Hi, I’m Daniel. I started The Prodigious in 2020 because I kept falling down rabbit holes. A random question would pop into my head (why do roosters crow in the morning, who is the silhouette on the NBA logo, is a “buttload” actually a real unit of measurement?) and an hour later I’d be several articles deep with a head full of facts and nobody to tell. This site is where I put them.
By day I work in IT, looking after networks, servers and the systems people rely on to get their work done. It’s a job built on curiosity: working out why something behaves the way it does, and not settling for the first answer that sounds right. I bring that same habit here, just pointed at space, the human body, animals, history and the odd bits of language we all use without thinking about.
I’m not a scientist, historian or doctor, and I won’t pretend to be. What I can promise is that I do the homework.
How I research each post
Every article starts with a question and ends with sources. I rely on research papers, universities, museums, government science agencies and established references, and I link to them within each post so you can read the original yourself. Where a popular “fact” turns out to be a myth, or where the experts still disagree, I’ll say so rather than repeat the version that makes the better headline. I don’t write health or medical advice; if a topic touches on your health, the right person to ask is your doctor.
Spotted a mistake?
I’d genuinely like to know. Science moves on, and I would rather fix a post than leave something wrong online. You can reach me through the contact page, and if you’ve got a question you’d like answered, send that too. Some of my favourite posts started as someone else’s question.
